Irregular Future Stems

Level 4

Venir, téner, prene, voler, poder, saber and dever have a future stem that you have to learn.

Vendrai is also the future of vendre (I will sell). The sentence tells you which verb is meant.

Far, dire and veire follow the regular rule: farai, dirai, veirai. The impersonal cal has calrà, also written caldrà.

Some forms have a second spelling in print, and both are correct. Voler is also written voldrai, voldrà, saber is also written saurai, saurà, and poder is also written podrai, podrà. Writers use voldrà and saurà more often than volrà and sauprà. This course uses the forms of the Vèrbòc. The conditional has the same pairs: volriái and voldriái, saupriái and sauriái, poiriái and podriái.
