The ending agrees with the thing you want.

How It Works

This pattern tells what you want or plan to do. The person takes -ला, and the ending of the verb follows the object.

An object with -ला, such as सईला, does not change the ending: मला सईला भेटायचे आहे. The ending stays neuter.

The last word agrees with the object too: आहे for one thing, आहेत for many.

Make it negative with नाही: मला आज जायचे नाही. (I don't want to go today.)

The same form for a past wish uses होता, होती, होते or होत्या to match the ending: मला जायचे होते, मला कॉफी घ्यायची होती.

    -ला on सई makes the verb neuter.

Common Mistakes

  • Making the ending agree with the object wrongly.

    मला चहा करायची आहे.
    मला चहा करायचा आहे.

    चहा is masculine, so use -ायचा.

  • Using मी for the one who wants.

    मी घरी जायचे आहे.
    मला घरी जायचे आहे.

    The person who wants takes -ला.
