The noun takes the shape it has before an ending: पाऊस becomes पावसा-, तू becomes तुझ्या-.

How It Works

-मुळे answers “because of what?”. It is written as one word with the noun or pronoun, and the result follows it.

A long ऊ before the last letter shortens when an ending is added. Many feminine nouns that end in a consonant add -ी (वाहतूक becomes वाहतुकीमुळे), and others add -े (वीज becomes विजेमुळे).

Pronouns take the oblique shapes you know from other endings: माझ्यामुळे, तुझ्यामुळे, त्याच्यामुळे, तिच्यामुळे.

The cause can be good: तुझ्यामुळे मला हे काम मिळाले. (I got this job because of you.) It can also be bad: पावसामुळे उशीर झाला. For an action as the cause, use -ल्यामुळे.

A person as the cause is common in thanks and in blame: तुझ्यामुळे आम्ही वेळेवर पोहोचलो. (Thanks to you, we arrived on time.) The -मुळे phrase usually comes first, and the result follows: पावसामुळे रस्ता बंद झाला.

Plural pronouns work the same way: आमच्यामुळे, तुमच्यामुळे, त्यांच्यामुळे.

    The bus came late because of the traffic.

    वाहतुकीमुळे joins to the noun वाहतूक.

  4. तुझ्यामुळे मला हे काम मिळाले.

    I got this job because of you.

    तुझ्यामुळे uses the shape तुझ्या- before the ending.

  5. थंडीमुळे मुले घरी थांबली.

    The children stayed home because of the cold.

    थंडीमुळे is the cause.

  • Not changing the noun before -मुळे.

    पावसामुळे उशीर झाला.
