कारण
Giving a Reason
The result comes first, and the reason follows कारण.
How It Works
Put the result first and the reason after कारण. Write a comma before कारण.
| Result | Reason |
|---|---|
| मी आलो नाही, | कारण मी आजारी होतो. |
| आज शाळा बंद आहे, | कारण पाऊस खूप आहे. |
| मी उशिरा आले, | कारण बस उशिरा आली. |
Each clause has its own verb and its own agreement. A man says मी आलो नाही, and a woman says मी आले नाही.
कारण answers the question का: तू का आला नाहीस? कारण मी आजारी होतो.
The same two clauses can be turned around with म्हणून: मी आजारी होतो, म्हणून मी आलो नाही. The reason comes first, and म्हणून points to the result.
The reason clause has its own verbs and its own tense: मी आलो नाही, कारण काल रात्री मला ताप आला होता. (I didn't come, because I had a fever last night.)
कारण can open a short answer on its own: कारण पाऊस आला. (Because it rained.)
