And, But and or

Level 1Sounds Like āṇi / paṇa / kinvā

In a question, की offers the choice: चहा हवा की कॉफी?

How It Works

WordMeaningExample
आणिandचहा आणि पाणी
पणbutलहान, पण सुंदर
किंवाorचहा किंवा कॉफी
कीor, in a questionचहा की कॉफी?

आणि joins words (सई आणि ओंकार) and whole sentences (मी चहा घेतो आणि पेपर वाचतो). When आणि joins two subjects, the verb is plural: सई आणि ओंकार इथे आहेत.

पण goes at the start of the second part. A comma before it helps: घर लहान आहे, पण सुंदर आहे.

Use किंवा when you say what you might have: मी चहा किंवा कॉफी घेतो. Use की when you ask someone to pick one: तुला चहा हवा की कॉफी?
