कोणीही / काहीही / कुठेही

Anyone, Anything and Anywhere

Level 3Sounds Like kōṇīhī / kāhīhī / kuṭhēhī

The word takes -ही at the very end, after any case ending: कोणालाही, कोणाशीही.

How It Works

Marathi makes "any" words with -ही. The question word and -ही become one word.

Question wordWith -हीMeaning
कोण / कोणीकोणीहीanyone
काय / काहीकाहीहीanything
कुठेकुठेहीanywhere
कधीकधीहीat any time
कसाकसाहीin any way

The case ending stays in the middle, and -ही comes last: कोणाला becomes कोणालाही (to anyone), and कोणाशी becomes कोणाशीही (with anyone).

On its own, काहीही! can also be a comment on something silly. It then means "that makes no sense".

कोणीही, काहीही and कुठेही have no gender and no number, so the verb matches the sentence as usual: कोणीही येऊ शकतो. With a feminine noun, the question word is feminine too: कोणतीही बस चालेल. (Any bus will do.) कोणता, कोणती and कोणते also take -ही and match the noun: कोणताही, कोणतीही, कोणतेही. So does कसा: कसाही, कशीही, कसेही.

    ही वही कोणालाही देऊ नकोस.

The case ending comes first, and -ही is last.

  • Writing -ही as a separate word.

    कोणी ही येऊ शकतो.
    कोणीही येऊ शकतो.

    -ही joins the question word.
