-ही / सुद्धा

Also and Too

Level 2Sounds Like hī / sud'dhā

-ही joins the word it follows, and सुद्धा stays a separate word.

How It Works

Pick the word that is also true, and put -ही on it or सुद्धा after it. The two forms mean the same.

With -हीWith सुद्धा
मीही येते.मी सुद्धा येते.
तोही आला.तो सुद्धा आला.
चहाही हवा आहे.चहा सुद्धा हवा आहे.

-ही joins the word, so the spelling is मीही. सुद्धा always stands alone.

With a case ending, -ही goes after the ending: घरातही, मुलालाही. सुद्धा simply follows the whole word: घरात सुद्धा.

Both forms keep the verb agreement of the sentence. A man says मी सुद्धा चहा घेतो, and a woman says मी सुद्धा चहा घेते.

Put -ही on the word that is also true. In मीही येते, the extra person is मी. In तो आजही येतो, the extra day is आज.

In a negative sentence the meaning is "either": मला दूधही नको. (I don't want milk either.)

  • Writing -ही as a separate word.

    मी ही येते.
    मीही येते.

-ही joins the word before it.

  • Using the Hindi word भी.

    मी भी येते.
    मी सुद्धा येते.

भी is Hindi. Marathi says सुद्धा or -ही.
