हा / ही / हे; तो / ती / ते
This and That
Near and far words come in matching pairs for each gender: हा and तो, ही and ती, हे and ते.
How It Works
Use a pointing word before a noun or alone.
| Gender | This | That |
|---|---|---|
| masculine | हा रस्ता | तो रस्ता |
| feminine | ही शाळा | ती शाळा |
| neuter | हे घर | ते घर |
The plural of हा is हे, the plural of ही is ह्या, and the plural of हे is ही.
The same words go before a person: हा भाऊ (this brother), ही बहीण (this sister), हे बाळ (this baby).
Look at the noun first. बस is feminine, so you say ही बस, and पुस्तक is neuter, so you say हे पुस्तक.
Use the pointing word as the doer too: हा येतो means This one comes.
