Than, With a Clause
ვიდრე means than, and it can be followed by a single word or a whole clause.
How It Works
| With -ზე | With ვიდრე |
|---|---|
(It's bigger than Batumi.) (It's bigger than Batumi.) |
(It was more expensive than I thought.) |
-ზე attaches to a noun or a pronoun. ვიდრე (vidre) can take a whole clause, as in ვიდრე მეგონა (than I thought).
After ვიდრე, the second item takes the same case as the first. (I like tea more than coffee), both are nominative, because both are things I love. (Nino has more time than Luka), both are dative.
ვიდრე also compares choices. With მირჩევნია (I prefer) and the optative, it says I'd rather: (I'd rather stay home than walk in the rain).
