Endings for In, On and From
The words for in, on, at, for and from are endings added to the noun.
How It Works
| Ending | Meaning | Built on | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| -ში | in, into | the dative, without its -ს | სახლში (in the house) |
| -ზე | on, about | the dative, without its -ს | მაგიდაზე (on the table) |
| -თან | at, near, at someone's place | the dative (-ს stays after a vowel) | დედასთან (at mom's) |
| -თვის | for | the genitive | დედისთვის (for mom) |
| -დან | from | the instrumental, without its -თ | თბილისიდან (from Tbilisi) |
Because the ending does the work, one Georgian word often matches a whole English phrase: ქალაქში is in the city.
Some other place words are separate words that follow the genitive, such as წინ (in front of) and შემდეგ (after): სახლის წინ (in front of the house). You will learn them at Level 2.
