იმის გამო, რომ
Because, In Writing
იმის გამო, რომ means because or due to the fact that, mostly in writing.
How It Works
იმის გამო, რომ (imis gamo, rom) gives a reason. It is built from -ის გამო (because of), which you know from nouns. To give a whole clause as the reason, the word იმის (of that) takes the place of the noun, and რომ starts the clause:
- წვიმის გამო (because of the rain)
- იმის გამო, რომ წვიმდა (because it was raining)
The phrase can come first, with a comma after the reason, or second, with a comma before it:
- იმის გამო, რომ წვიმდა, თამაში გადაიდო.
- ფრენა გადაიდო იმის გამო, რომ ამინდი ცუდი იყო.
It sounds careful and a little formal, so it suits news and letters. In conversation, რადგან or იმიტომ, რომ are more usual.
