იმიტომ, რომ
Because, In Answers
იმიტომ, რომ means because, and it is the usual answer to რატომ (why).
How It Works
იმიტომ (imit'om) means for that reason, and რომ begins the clause that says what the reason is. Together they mean because, and they are the usual answer to რატომ (why):
- რატომ არ მოხვედი? (Why didn't you come?)
- იმიტომ, რომ ავად ვიყავი. (Because I was sick.)
Write a comma between იმიტომ and რომ.
The two parts can also split up. იმიტომ goes inside the main clause, and the reason follows with რომ:
- ქართულს იმიტომ ვსწავლობ, რომ საქართველოში მეგობრები მყავს (I'm learning Georgian because I have friends in Georgia).
This puts the stress on the reason: that is why I'm learning it.
რადგან means the same, but people use იმიტომ, რომ more in everyday speech and in answers.
