How It Works

မှတစ်ဆင့် means "through", "via" or "by way of". It follows the place, channel or person that something passes through.

The phrase is built from မှ, the written word for "from", and တစ်ဆင့်, "one step". The picture is a step along the way: from here, then on to the end. So ဘန်ကောက်မှတစ်ဆင့် ရန်ကုန်သို့ means to Yangon via Bangkok, with a stop in Bangkok first.

News and notices use it for how something reaches people: a show broadcast online, news spreading through social media, money sent through a bank. With a person, it means that person passed the message on.

The spoken partner is ကနေတစ်ဆင့်, with ကနေ, the spoken "from": သူငယ်ချင်းကနေတစ်ဆင့် ဒီအလုပ်ကို ရခဲ့တယ်။ (I got this job through a friend.) Keep ကနေ out of written sentences.
