Wanting to Do Something

Level 2Sounds Like cāhala

Verb in the -े form, then चाहत plus बा: want to do.

How It Works

SubjectFormExample

Compare two ways to say want. For a thing you want to have, use चाहीं and the हमरा form: हमरा चाय चाहीं. For an action you want to do, use चाहल and the plain subject: हम चाय पिये चाहत बानी.

The negative uses the form of नइखे that matches the subject, as other -त forms do: हम जाए नइखीं चाहत, नेहा जाए नइखी चाहत.

When the wanting is about someone else's action, a different pattern with कि is used: माई चाहत बाड़ी कि हम पढ़ीं.

    Bhojpuri uses the -े form.

  • Using चाहीं for an action.

चाहीं is for things you need, not actions you want.
