Would Have: -त and -इत
For something that did not happen, use the -त form, with -इत for हम and for a woman.
How It Works
To talk about something that did not happen, use जौ ... तौ with the -त form in both parts.
| Who | Form |
|---|---|
| ऊ (man) | करत, आवत, पढ़त |
| ऊ (woman) | करित, आइत, पढ़ित |
| हम | करित, आइत, जाइत |
| तुम | करतेव, आवतेव |
| ऊ लोग | करतेन |
जौ हमका पता होत, तौ हम आइत means "if I had known, I would have come". The pair says the real thing did not happen: I did not know, and I did not come.
The same sentence can also be about now: जौ ऊ पढ़त, तौ पास होत can mean "if he studied, he would pass".
Learn the ऊ and हम forms first, since they are the most common.

होत and आइत show the unreal condition.
- जौ पानी न बरसत, तौ हम मेला जाइत।
If it had not rained, I would have gone to the fair.
न comes before the -त form.

If you had said so, I would have stayed.
बोलतेव is the तुम form.
