अही
I Am and We Are: अही
With हम, the verb to be is अही.
How It Works
अही is how you say I am or we are.
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| हम ठीक अही। | I am fine. |
| हम लखनऊ से अही। | I am from Lucknow. |
| हम लोग घरे अही। | We are at home. |
With a -त verb, अही tells you what you do or are doing: हम चाय पियत अही (I am having tea).
You will also hear other forms. People near Lucknow often say हन. In Faizabad and Sultanpur villages some say अहन. They are real, and they mean the same as अही. The lessons use अही, so start with it.
Do not use अहै with हम. अहै is for ऊ and ई.
