সৌ
That One Over There: সৌ
সৌ তাত means “over there”, as in কিতাপখন সৌ তাত আছে “the book is over there”.
How It Works
Assamese has three steps of distance.
| Word | Distance | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ইয়াত | here, near you | ইয়াত আন কোনো নাই। “There is nobody else here.” |
| তাত | there | তাত কিবা আছে। “There is something there.” |
| সৌ তাত | over there, far and in sight | কিতাপখন সৌ তাত আছে। “The book is over there.” |
The word stands before the place word. A description can follow: সৌ তাত থকা ল’ৰাটো “the boy over there”.
After সৌ তাত the sentence goes on as usual, with the verb of being (আছে) or a verb such as বহি আছে “is sitting” or থিয় হৈ আছে “is standing”.

How It Connects
Learn This First
