Formal Written Requests
Thai official letters often use set phrases to state the final request or purpose and, where appropriate, a complimentary close. The formula depends on the document type and recipient.
How It Works
The examples show concluding formulas used in Thai official correspondence. The final request and the complimentary close do different jobs. Follow the applicable document template and recipient table for a real letter.
1. Read The Requested Action
จึงเรียนมาเพื่อ... introduces the purpose of the conclusion. In the examples, โปรดพิจารณาอนุมัติ requests consideration and approval, โปรดพิจารณาให้ความอนุเคราะห์ requests consideration of assistance, and โปรดทราบ presents information respectfully. จึงเรียนมาเพื่อทราบ is the displayed informational version without โปรด. The second example adds และขอขอบคุณมา ณ โอกาสนี้, an expression of thanks, to the body. It is separate from the complimentary close. Choose wording that states the action you actually need; the examples do not establish a fixed ladder of rank or gratitude.
The illustrated external-letter guide separates background (ภาคเหตุ), purpose (ภาคความประสงค์), and conclusion (ภาคสรุป). This is a way to read that template, not a comparison of every two-part or three-part teaching model. เนื่องจาก introduces a stated reason; the guide’s layout does not establish an exceptionless pairing for every background connector.
2. The Complimentary Close: ขอแสดงความนับถือ
For the ordinary-recipient category taught here, this phrase is comparable to 'Yours sincerely' (Literally: 'Request to show respect'). The external-letter computer-typing guide hosted by Natorn municipality illustrates it on a new line below the concluding paragraph. In that guide's external-letter template (PDF page 5), its first letter (ข) starts on the vertical centre line of the Garuda emblem printed at the top of the page (แนวกึ่งกลางของตราครุฑ). That is not the middle of the typed text: a template may use unequal left and right margins, so follow its alignment guide rather than the apparent centre of the text block. Keep the closing and signature with enough preceding body text for a clear layout, and follow the applicable template for page breaks. In that illustrated template, leave the required signature space, then centre the printed name and position beneath the close. Its office contact block (ส่วนราชการเจ้าของเรื่อง) sits toward the lower left. This is an external-letter layout (หนังสือภายนอก), not a placement rule for every formal letter. Internal government memoranda on the บันทึกข้อความ form end with a signature block and omit this complimentary close; stamped letters (หนังสือประทับตรา) also use a different ending. Do not apply the memorandum rule to every internal letter: the same guide distinguishes internal letters on Garuda paper, which follow the external-letter form by analogy.
Matching The Recipient: The reproduced Appendix 2 to the 2526 (1983) correspondence regulation pairs salutations and complimentary closes by recipient category. The Law Reform-hosted compilation includes the original table (PDF pages 69–71) and a 2555 (2012) amendment to its special-office list (PDF pages 72–73). These pages establish the forms illustrated here, not a complete check of which offices or rules are current today. In the reproduced special-office row, examples include the President of the Privy Council, the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly, the President of the Supreme Court, and the Elder Statesman (รัฐบุรุษ). The row pairs กราบเรียน with ขอแสดงความนับถืออย่างยิ่ง. A gratitude phrase such as จะเป็นพระคุณยิ่ง belongs to the body when the purpose calls for thanks; it is not part of this table's salutation-and-closing pair. For ordinary recipients outside that special-office category, row 3.2 pairs เรียน with ขอแสดงความนับถือ. For Buddhist monks, row 2.5 (พระภิกษุสงฆ์ทั่วไป) pairs นมัสการ with ขอนมัสการด้วยความเคารพ; the higher monastic ranks above it have different full formulas. Use the applicable current recipient table for a real letter rather than treating this historical example list as exhaustive.
Examples (5)
- จึงเรียนมาเพื่อโปรดพิจารณาอนุมัติ
Therefore, I inform you for your kind consideration and approval.
Word by Word: Therefore inform come in order to please consider approve
A conventional conclusion when asking someone with the relevant authority to approve a budget, project, or formal request.
- จึงเรียนมาเพื่อโปรดพิจารณาให้ความอนุเคราะห์ และขอขอบคุณมา ณ โอกาสนี้
Therefore, I inform you to request your kind assistance, and I thank you on this occasion.
Word by Word: Therefore inform come in order to please consider give assistance and request thank come at occasion this
This example requests assistance and adds a separate expression of thanks. It illustrates one complete conclusion; it does not establish a required ending for every request to an external party.
- จึงเรียนมาเพื่อโปรดทราบ
Therefore, I inform you for your information.
Word by Word: Therefore inform come in order to please know
Used instead of โปรดพิจารณา when the purpose is informational. The word โปรด makes this a deferential notice; choose the form according to the recipient and official template.
- จึงเรียนมาเพื่อทราบ
Therefore, I inform you for your information.
Word by Word: Therefore inform come in order to know
The displayed conclusion presents information without asking for consideration or approval. It omits โปรด. The example does not by itself assign this wording to every subordinate or mass circular.
- จึงเรียนมาเพื่อโปรดพิจารณา ขอแสดงความนับถือ
Therefore, I inform you for your consideration. Yours sincerely,
Word by Word: Therefore inform come in order to please consider request show respect
An illustrative sequence ending an external official letter. In the external-letter template on PDF page 5 of the Natorn-hosted computer-typing guide, 'ขอแสดงความนับถือ' begins on a new line below the concluding paragraph, with its first letter on the Garuda emblem's vertical centre line (แนวกึ่งกลางของตราครุฑ). Follow that template's spacing when using that form.
How It Connects
Learn This First
Formal written requests in Thai rely on specific high-register vocabulary and fixed formulas. Learners need to understand the difference between spoken and written registers, as well as the logical connectors 'จึง' (therefore) and 'เพื่อ' (in order to) which form the backbone of official request sentences.

Level 5 - จึงAnd Therefore
