प्रत्येक / दर
Each and Every
प्रत्येक goes with people and things, and दर goes with repeated times.
How It Works
प्रत्येक means each one of many. It takes a singular noun, even when the meaning is plural: प्रत्येक मूल शाळेत जाते. (Every child goes to school.) The noun takes its usual shape before a case ending: प्रत्येक मूल becomes प्रत्येक मुलाला.
प्रत्येकजण means everyone and is used for people only.
दर means every in a repeated period. It stands before the time word:
| With दर | Meaning |
|---|---|
| दर रविवारी | every Sunday |
| दर सकाळी | every morning |
| दर महिन्याला | every month |
| दर तीन तासांनी | every three hours |
After a number, the time word is plural: दर तीन तासांनी, दर दोन दिवसांनी. Use रोज for every day and नेहमी for always.
In time phrases like दर रविवारी, Marathi does not use हर. That use is Hindi. Learners often put a plural noun after प्रत्येक. प्रत्येक takes one thing at a time, so the noun and the verb stay singular.
