भेटब
Getting and Finding
भेटब means to be found, received or met, so the person who gets it takes the हमरा form.
How It Works
Compare English "I got a letter" with Maithili "to me a letter was found".
| Who gets | Example |
|---|---|
| हमरा | हमरा अहाँक चिट्ठी भेटल। |
| हुनका | हुनका नव नोकरी भेटलनि। |
| हमरा | काल्हि हमरा टिकट भेटत। |
The same verb means "to meet" for people: बाट मे हमरा दादा भेटलाह (On the way I met grandfather). The person you meet is the subject, and the verb shows respect for them.
When the person who gets the thing is respected, the verb can show it: हुनका नोकरी भेटलनि.
For things you cannot find: कतहु पानि नहि भेटल (Water was found nowhere).
Do not use हम as the subject. हम चिट्ठी भेटलहुँ would mean "I was found".
