छनि

Saying a Respected Person Has Something

Level 4Sounds Like hunakā ... chani

With हुनका, "have" becomes छनि.

How It Works

Maithili says who has something with the owner in the object form, followed by what is owned.

OwnerForm

छनि is the respected form of अछि when it follows a person who owns or feels something. It is also used with knowing: (She knows everything).

With a plain owner, writing says अछि. Speech often says छैक.

The owner can be a noun with

The spelling is छनि. Older books write छन्हि. Write छनि.

Do not use छथि here. छथि says that someone is. छनि says that someone has.
