अपनेक पत्र in Formal Letters

Writing a Formal Letter

Level 5Sounds Like apanēka patra

अपने is the formal "you" for letters, speeches and notices.

How It Works

In a formal letter, you do not write अहाँ. You write अपने, a very respectful "you". It is used for officials, teachers, elders you do not know and a public audience.

  • अपने takes the same verb forms as अहाँ.
  • Use full written forms: नहि, not नै; अछि, not छै.
  • Letters often end with thanks or a wish for a quick answer.

You can follow a letter easily if you remember that अपने means "you" and everything else is as usual. Do not mix अहाँ and अपने in one letter. Hindi आप does not fit here.
