Level 6Sounds Like kē prati

X के प्रति means toward X, for feelings and attitudes: बच्चों के प्रति प्यार (love for children).

How It Works

के प्रति expresses an attitude directed at someone or something. Typical words around it are:

  • feelings: प्रेम, प्यार, सम्मान (respect), आभारी (grateful)
  • behavior and views: व्यवहार (behavior), रवैया (attitude), दृष्टिकोण (outlook)
  • duties: ज़िम्मेदारी, कर्तव्य (duty)
  • awareness: जागरूकता, जागरूक, संवेदनशील (sensitive)

The noun before के प्रति takes its form before a postposition, and a pronoun takes its possessive form: बच्चों के प्रति, मेरे प्रति, उनके प्रति.

Do not use के प्रति for physical movement. To walk toward the river is नदी की ओर चलना or नदी की तरफ़ चलना.

In everyday speech, people often say the same thing another way: देश से प्यार (love for the country), बच्चों का ख़याल (care for children). के प्रति is more formal.
