की ओर / की तरफ़
Toward Something
की ओर and की तरफ़ mean toward or in the direction of.
How It Works
Both phrases show direction: वह स्टेशन की ओर गया (He went toward the station), वह खिड़की की तरफ़ देख रही थी (She was looking toward the window).
ओर and तरफ़ are feminine nouns meaning side or direction, so the word before them is always की, even after a masculine noun: घर की ओर, स्टेशन की तरफ़. With pronouns, use मेरी, हमारी, आपकी, उसकी, उनकी.
की तरफ़ is more common in everyday speech; की ओर is used in speech too and is a little more frequent in writing.
Toward does not mean arriving. वह घर की ओर चल रहा था says he was walking toward home, not that he got there. For simply going to a place, use the place with no postposition: वह घर गया.
तरफ़ also means side: इस तरफ़ (this side), सड़क की दूसरी तरफ़ (the other side of the road). की तरफ़ से means from or on behalf of: मेरी तरफ़ से धन्यवाद (Thank you from me).
