About a Topic

Level 2Sounds Like kē bārē mēṁ

के बारे में means about and follows the topic you talk, think, ask or know about.

How It Works

के बारे में introduces the topic of talking, thinking, asking or knowing: हम फ़िल्म के बारे में बात कर रहे थे (We were talking about the film).

It goes with many common verbs:

  • बात करना: उसके बारे में बात मत करो.
  • सोचना: मैं घर के बारे में सोच रहा हूँ.
  • पूछना: उसने तुम्हारे बारे में पूछा.
  • बताना: मुझे अपने शहर के बारे में बताइए.
  • पता होना: मुझे इसके बारे में कुछ नहीं पता.

With pronouns, use the form ending in -े: मेरे बारे में, हमारे बारे में, आपके बारे में, उनके बारे में. The noun changes as before any postposition: बच्चों के बारे में, इस किताब के बारे में. के stays के even after a feminine noun.

के बारे में does not mark the person you talk to. That person takes से: मैंने रीमा से नौकरी के बारे में बात की (I talked to Reema about the job).

    We're talking about the trip.

    यात्रा is the topic; के stays के after this feminine noun.

  2. आपको इस किताब के बारे में क्या पता है?

    What do you know about this book?

    The topic is इस किताब; the person who knows takes को.

  3. मुझे बच्चों के बारे में बताइए।

    Tell me about the children.

    बच्चे becomes बच्चों before के बारे में.

  4. अपने बारे में कुछ बताइए।

    Tell me a little about yourself.

    अपने बारे में: about yourself.

  5. मैं तुम्हारे बारे में सोच रहा था।

    I was thinking about you.

    तुम्हारे बारे में: about you.

Common Mistakes

  • Changing के to की after a feminine noun.

    हम फ़िल्म की बारे में बात कर रहे थे।
    हम फ़िल्म के बारे में बात कर रहे थे।

    के बारे में never changes, even after a feminine noun like फ़िल्म.
