By an Agent in Formal Writing
X द्वारा means by X in formal Hindi: सरकार द्वारा घोषणा की गई (An announcement was made by the government).
How It Works
Everyday Hindi prefers active sentences: स्कूल ने सूचना दी (The school gave a notice). Formal Hindi, especially in news and official notices, often turns this into a passive and names the doer with द्वारा: सूचना विद्यालय द्वारा दी गई.
How to use it:
- Put द्वारा right after the doer: समिति द्वारा, पुलिस द्वारा. के द्वारा is also correct.
- A pronoun takes its possessive form: मेरे द्वारा, आपके द्वारा, उनके द्वारा.
- The doer with द्वारा never takes ने.
- The verb agrees with the thing done: घोषणा (feminine) → की गई; संदेश (masculine) → भेजा गया.
With things rather than people, द्वारा names the means: ईमेल के द्वारा (by email), डाक द्वारा (by mail). In everyday speech, से does this job: ईमेल से.
News Hindi also puts द्वारा phrases inside long descriptions before a noun: सरकार द्वारा शुरू की गई योजना (the scheme launched by the government).
