ვიცი/ვიცოდი/მეცოდინება

Knowing in Every Tense

Level 3Sounds Like vitsi/vitsodi/metsodineba

Know is ვიცი now, ვიცოდი in the past and მეცოდინება in the future.

How It Works

PersonNowIn the pastIn the future
Iვიცივიცოდიმეცოდინება (metsodineba)
youიციიცოდიგეცოდინება
he, sheიცისიცოდაეცოდინება
weვიცითვიცოდითგვეცოდინება

In the present and the past, the knower takes the ergative: დედამ ყველაფერი იცის (Mom knows everything), ბავშვებმა პასუხი იცოდნენ (the children knew the answer).

In the future, the knower moves to the dative, as with მიყვარს: ხვალ ნინოს პასუხი ეცოდინება (Nino will know the answer tomorrow).

The thing you know is in the nominative: ქართული ვიცი, პასუხი ვიცოდი.

Know has no aorist, so ვიცოდი is its only past. For knowing a person, use ვიცნობ instead.
