ვიცნობ

Knowing a Person

Level 2Sounds Like vitsnob

ვიცნობ (vitsnob) means I know a person or am acquainted with someone.

How It Works

ვიცნობ (vitsnob) means I know someone, in the sense of being acquainted with them. The person you know takes the dative ending -ს, as with most present-tense verbs: ნინოს ვიცნობ (I know Nino).

PersonForm
Iვიცნობ
youიცნობ
he, sheიცნობს
weვიცნობთ
you (several, or polite)იცნობთ
theyიცნობენ

English uses one verb, know, for people and for facts. Georgian uses two. ვიცნობ is for people and places. ვიცი is for facts and answers: ამ კაცს ვიცნობ, მაგრამ მისი სახელი არ ვიცი (I know this man, but I don't know his name).

With the preverb გა- it becomes the future, meaning I will meet or get to know someone: გავიცნობ (gavitsnob).
