უ-...-ელი (Not Done)
Not Done
Participles with უ-...-ელი or უ-...-ავი mean not done: დაუწერელი (unwritten), უნახავი (unseen).
How It Works
The negative participle has უ- (u-) after the preverb and means not done:
| Done | Not done |
|---|---|
| დაწერილი (written) | დაუწერელი (unwritten) |
| წაკითხული (read) | წაუკითხავი (unread) |
| გაკეთებული (done) | გაუკეთებელი (not done) |
| ნანახი (seen) | უნახავი (unseen) |
Many of these also mean that something cannot be done, like English words in un-...-able: დაუვიწყარი (unforgettable), დაუჯერებელი (unbelievable).
Some have become everyday words with their own meaning: უცნობი means unknown, and also a stranger.
They work like adjectives, so before a noun in the dative the -ი drops: უცნობ ადამიანს კარს ნუ გაუღებ (don't open the door to a stranger).
