-იანი (With)
With Something
-იანი turns a noun into a describing word that means with it or having it.
How It Works
| Noun | With -იანი |
|---|---|
| შაქარი (sugar) | შაქრიანი ჩაი (tea with sugar) |
| მზე (sun) | მზიანი დღე (a sunny day) |
| ქარი (wind) | ქარიანი ამინდი (windy weather) |
| ხორცი (meat) | ხორციანი ხინკალი (khinkali with meat) |
| სამი ოთახი (three rooms) | სამოთახიანი ბინა (a three-room apartment) |
The new word comes before the noun, like any describing word, and it changes for case: მზიან დღეს (on a sunny day), ხორციან ხინკალს (khinkali with meat, as the object of a present-tense verb).
A number can join the noun first: სამი ოთახი becomes სამოთახიანი (with three rooms). This is how apartments and houses are described.
The opposite, without, is უ-...-ო: შაქრიანი ჩაი (tea with sugar) and უშაქრო ჩაი (tea without sugar).
