-ილი/-ული (Past Participle)
Past Participles
The past participle ends in -ილი or -ული and works like an adjective: დაწერილი წერილი (a written letter).
How It Works
The past participle names the result of an action. It keeps the verb's preverb and usually ends in -ილი or -ული:
| Verb | Participle |
|---|---|
| დაწერს (will write) | დაწერილი (written) |
| მოხარშავს (will boil) | მოხარშული (boiled) |
| გააკეთებს (will make) | გაკეთებული (made) |
| დაკარგავს (will lose) | დაკარგული (lost) |
Verbs whose future ends in -ებს usually take -ებული: გაკეთებული, აშენებული. For other verbs, learn the ending with the verb. A few end in -არი, such as შემწვარი (fried).
A participle works like an adjective. It comes before the noun and changes the same way: მოხარშული კვერცხი, but მოხარშულ კვერცხს ვჭამ (I'm eating a boiled egg). Before a plural noun it stays as it is: მოხარშული კვერცხები.
The version vowel after the preverb drops in the participle: გააკეთებს, but გაკეთებული.
