რომელი საათია?

Telling the Time

Level 2Sounds Like romeli saatia?

Ask the time with რომელი საათია? and say at what time with the number and საათზე.

How It Works

To ask the time, say რომელი საათია? (romeli saatia?), literally which hour is it? This is a fixed phrase, so learn it as one piece. The answer uses the same short form: ათი საათია (it is ten o'clock).

To say at a time, put -ზე on საათი. The number before it drops its -ი, the same way describing words do before a noun with an ending:

NumberAt that time
ორი (two)ორ საათზე
ხუთი (five)ხუთ საათზე
შვიდი (seven)შვიდ საათზე
რვა (eight)რვა საათზე
თორმეტი (twelve)თორმეტ საათზე

Numbers that end in -ა, like რვა and ცხრა, stay as they are.

To ask when something happens, say რომელ საათზე? (at what time?): რომელ საათზე იწყება გაკვეთილი? Half past and quarter to come later.

Common Mistakes

  • Keeping -ი on the number before საათზე.

    ხუთი საათზე მოვალ.
    ხუთ საათზე მოვალ.

Before საათზე, the number drops its -ი.
