ყოფილხარ?
Have You Been?
The perfect of to be asks and tells where someone has been: საქართველოში ყოფილხარ? (Have you been to Georgia?)
How It Works
To ask whether someone has ever visited a place, Georgian uses the perfect of to be. The place takes -ში, since you were in it:
- საქართველოში ყოფილხარ? (Have you been to Georgia?)
- ბათუმში ორჯერ ვყოფილვარ. (I've been to Batumi twice.)
| Person | Have been |
|---|---|
| I | ვყოფილვარ |
| you | ყოფილხარ |
| he, she | ყოფილა |
| we | ვყოფილვართ |
| you all, or polite you | ყოფილხართ |
| they | ყოფილან |
The I, you, we and you-all forms add the endings of ვარ, ხარ, ვართ and ხართ to ყოფილ-, and the I- and we-forms also start with ვ-.
For never, use არასდროს: სვანეთში არასდროს ვყოფილვარ (I've never been to Svaneti).
The he-or-she form ყოფილა also means it turns out it was, which has its own topic.
