Verbs such as တွေ့ဆုံ (meet) and ဆွေးနွေး (discuss) take နှင့် for the other person: ဝန်ကြီးနှင့် တွေ့ဆုံသည် (met the minister).
How It Works
Writing says နှင့် in the place where speech says နဲ့. It has the same two jobs: "and" between nouns, and "with" after a person.

နှင့် is said hnin. Between two names, it joins a pair: ဦးအောင်ကျော်နှင့် ဒေါ်ခင်ခင် (U Aung Kyaw and Daw Khin Khin).
For a list, put နှင့် before the last item and close the list with တို့: မုန့်ဟင်းခါး၊ အုန်းနို့ခေါက်ဆွဲနှင့် လက်ဖက်သုပ်တို့ (mohinga, coconut noodles and tea-leaf salad).
Verbs of meeting and talking take နှင့် for the other person: တွေ့ဆုံ (meet), ဆွေးနွေး (discuss), လက်ထပ် (marry).
For a tool or a way of doing something, writing uses ဖြင့်: လေယာဉ်ဖြင့် (by plane). For "together with", it says နှင့်အတူ. To join two whole actions, use ၍ or ပြီး.
နှင့် goes with other written words, in a sentence that ends in သည် or မည်. In conversation, say နဲ့.

ဆွေးနွေး takes နှင့် for the other side.
- ရန်ကုန်နှင့် မန္တလေးကြား ရထား နေ့စဉ် ပြေးဆွဲသည်။
Trains run every day between Yangon and Mandalay.
နှင့် joins the two cities.

Using spoken နဲ့ in a written sentence.
ဆရာနဲ့ ကျောင်းသားများ တက်ရောက်ကြသည်။ဆရာနှင့် ကျောင်းသားများ တက်ရောက်ကြသည်။A sentence ending in သည် uses နှင့်.
