How It Works

သည်နှင့် means "as soon as". The first event comes before it, and the next event follows straight after.

The first verb takes no time marker. Put ခဲ့ or မည် on the last verb only, and it covers both events: ရောက်ရှိသည်နှင့် စတင်ခဲ့သည် means it began as soon as he arrived.

News and stories use it to show events following fast: the meeting began as soon as the minister arrived, the room went quiet as soon as the teacher walked in. It also states a rule that always holds: as soon as it rains, the streets flood.

Keep it apart from plain နှင့် after a noun, which means "and" or "with". Here နှင့် follows သည်, which follows a verb, so the whole phrase means "as soon as".

The spoken partner is တာနဲ့. Each belongs in its own style: တာနဲ့ never goes into a sentence that ends with သည်.
