Stem plus -ते means as soon as something happens.

How It Works

-ते joins two actions that happen one right after the other. The first verb has no tense of its own, and the tense comes from the second half.

StemWith -ते
पहुँचपहुँचते
बइठबइठते
देखदेखते
मिलमिलते

It can also name its own doer, different from the second half, with के: माई के आवते सब चुप हो गइलें. The word के shows who comes.

-ते is short and spoken. For the sense of "while", use -त घरी: ऊ जात घरी मिलल. For "after", use -ला के बाद.
