Went: গ’লোঁ, গ’লা, গ’ল

Level 3Sounds Like ga’lōm̐ / ga’lā / ga’la

যা “go” becomes গ’ল in the past: মই গ’লোঁ, তুমি গ’লা and সি গ’ল.

How It Works

The verb যা does not make its past from the stem. It uses গ’-.

WhoFormExample
মই, আমিগ’লোঁমই ঘৰলৈ গ’লোঁ “I went home”
তুমিগ’লাতুমি স্কুললৈ গ’লা “you went to school”
আপুনিগ’লেthe same letters as “if”
সি, তাই, তেওঁগ’লসি বজাৰলৈ গ’ল “he went to the market”

The apostrophe makes the vowel sound o. Write it as part of the word, between the two letters: গ’ল.

After a verb in the -ি form, গ’ল often shows a change: সি চুপ হৈ গ’ল “he went silent”.

Beware of গ’লে for আপুনি: the same letters also mean “if”, and the rest of the sentence shows which one is meant.
