চিনি পাওঁ

Knowing a Person

Level 3Sounds Like cini pā'ōm̐

চিনি পাওঁ means “I know” a person, as in মই তাক বহুত দিন ধৰি চিনি পাওঁ “I have known him for a long time”.

How It Works

Use চিনি পা when you know a person, an animal or a place. For a fact, say জানো instead.

WhoPresent
মইচিনি পাওঁ
তুমিচিনি পোৱা
আপুনি, তেওঁ, সি, তাইচিনি পায়

The person known takes -ক: তুমি মোক চিনি পোৱা “you know me”. A place takes no ending: ঠাইখন চিনি পোৱা “you know the place”.

The negative is চিনি নাপায়: সি মোক চিনি নাপায় “he does not know me”.

The past uses the same words with a different ending: মই তেওঁলোক দুয়োকে চিনি পাইছিলোঁ “I knew both of them”.

A time phrase can go before it: দহ বছৰ ধৰি “for ten years”. The question uses নেকি: দীপংকৰক চিনি পায় নেকি? “does he know Dipankar?”.
