Verb + -gan + -dan + keyin means after doing: Ovqatlangandan keyin choy ichamiz (After eating, we drink tea).
How It Works
1. Building the form
- ovqatlan- + -gan + -dan → ovqatlangandan keyin (after eating)
- tuga- + -gan + -dan → tugagandan soʻng (after it ended)
- chiq- + -qan + -dan → chiqqandan keyin (after going out)
2. Showing who
When the subject is clear, the plain form is enough: Ovqatlangandan keyin choy ichamiz. To name a different person, add a possessive ending before -dan, in the usual possessive plus case order:
- kelganimdan keyin (after I came)
- kelganingizdan keyin (after you came)
- kelganidan keyin (after he or she came)
A subject can also stand in front of the plain form: Dars tugagandan soʻng uyga ketdik (After the lesson ended, we went home).
3. The time comes from the last verb
The form has no tense of its own. Ichamiz makes the first example a habit, and ketdik makes the second one past.
4. Similar forms
-gach means the same in one ending and is common in writing: ovqatlangach. The opposite, before doing, is -ishdan oldin, which is built on -ish, not -gan. For since, use -dan beri: kelganimdan beri (since I came).
