جیسا ... ویسا

Matching a Manner or Kind

Level 3

Use the first part as the model for the second.

How It Works

When a noun is stated, its gender and number shape the matching forms. Feminine کرسی takes جیسی and ویسی; masculine plural جوتے takes جیسے and ویسے.

For a way of acting, جیسے ہم نے طے کیا تھا، ویسے ہی کیجیے asks for the agreed procedure. The forms describe manner rather than the gender of the people acting.

This is a comparison of kind or manner. Use جتنا ... اتنا for corresponding amounts instead of replacing the two pairs freely.

Examples (4)

  1. جیسی کرسی تم چاہتے ہو، ویسی یہاں نہیں ہے۔

There is no chair here of the kind you want.

The matching forms agree with feminine کرسی.

  2. جیسے جوتے بلال کے ہیں، ویسے مجھے بھی چاہییں۔

I want shoes like Bilal’s too.

The forms match masculine plural جوتے.

  3. جیسے ہم نے طے کیا تھا، ویسے ہی کیجیے۔

Do it the way we agreed.

    The pair describes manner.

  4. جیسا رنگ تصویر میں ہے، ویسا اصل میں نہیں ہے۔

The actual color is not like the color in the picture.

Masculine رنگ selects جیسا and ویسا.
