Linking Two Place Clauses
Use the first clause to say which place you mean.
How It Works
Neither word is a question here. کہاں asks “where?”; جہاں links the place description to the rest of the sentence.
The place need not have a proper name. A condition such as available shade or an empty seat can identify it.
Directions and sources can include extra postpositions, as in جہاں سے and وہاں سے. Keep the relation clear in both parts.
Examples (4)
Sit where there is light.
The first clause identifies a suitable place.
There is now a garden where the shop used to be.
The clauses describe the same place at different times.
Does a bus go where you live?
The main clause asks about transport to the described place.
I have come from the same place as you.
سے marks the source in both parts; the speaker uses masculine agreement.
