کی طرف
Toward a Direction
Use the phrase for direction, without asserting arrival.
How It Works
The fixed feminine کی belongs to the compound postposition. It does not change to کا because the destination noun happens to be masculine.
Pronouns use the corresponding possessive form: میری طرف and ہماری طرف. میری طرف has the same form whether the speaker is masculine or feminine.
A noun that changes before a postposition takes its oblique form, as in دروازے کی طرف.
Examples (4)
- ہم دریا کی طرف چل رہے ہیں۔
We are walking toward the river.
The phrase gives a direction rather than a completed arrival.
- براہ کرم میری طرف دیکھیے۔
Please look toward me.
میری supplies the possessive form required by طرف.
- بچہ دروازے کی طرف بھاگا۔
The child ran toward the door.
دروازہ becomes oblique دروازے.
- اس نے کھڑکی کی طرف اشارہ کیا۔
They pointed toward the window.
The direction belongs to the pointing gesture.
