1. Read the Reference
The displayed pattern is [Subject] + ต่างจาก + [Reference]. อากาศที่นี่ต่างจากกรุงเทพฯ มาก compares the weather here with Bangkok, with มาก marking a large difference. สองสิ่งนี้ต่างกันลิบลับ describes the two things as vastly different. These examples do not establish a most-common structure or fixed frequency for ลิบลับ.

2. Compare One Item or a Pair
A ต่างจาก B presents A against B. A กับ B ต่างกัน compares A and B with each other. For that reciprocal reading, compare กัน, และ and กับ in the complete sentence. วัฒนธรรมไทยกับวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกต่างกัน presents a pair. This does not ban a joint subject followed by ต่างจาก and a separate, stated reference.

3. State the Aspect
โทรศัพท์สองรุ่นนี้ต่างกันที่ราคา locates the difference in price. Read ต่างกันที่... and ต่างกันตรงที่... with the aspect that follows.

4. Compare Related Forms
ระบบนี้แตกต่างจากระบบเก่า uses แตกต่างจาก. นิสัยเขาต่างกับฉัน uses ต่างกับ, with กับ introducing the comparison. The NIU dictionary also gives ต่างกับ comparison examples. Read each full construction; these examples do not certify a formal-versus-colloquial ranking, a frequency claim, or an always-safe substitution.

5. Negation and Change
ไม่ต่างจาก says not different from in the stated comparison; it does not by itself prove exact identity in every respect. สองคนนี้ไม่ต่างกัน compares two people. มันไม่ต่างอะไรจากของปลอม adds อะไร in the complete negative comparison. ที่นี่ต่างไปจากเดิมมาก includes ไป and เดิม to compare with the previous state, not a physical distance. ไม่เหมือน(กับ) gives another comparison to read in context, without a claim about speakers always preferring it.

6. Compare Actions and Clauses
การทำงานที่นี่ต่างจากการทำงานที่บริษัทเก่า compares working here with working at the former company. การ forms action nouns in this sentence. In ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้ต่างจากที่ฉันคิดไว้, the second ที่ introduces what I had thought; it is not a demonstrative that. These are related constructions, not one identical nominalizing rule for every การ or ที่.

7. Other Uses of ต่าง
The NIU dictionary distinguishes different, separate and each senses. ต่าง ๆ means various in its phrase, ต่างประเทศ refers to foreign countries, and ต่างคนต่างทำ describes each person doing their own thing. Read those whole expressions separately from ต่างจาก. The retained culture, food and theory examples teach wording; their broad factual claims are not independently certified here.

Common Mistakes

Leaving ต่างจาก without a reference when the task asks for a reciprocal comparison.
