Languedocien and Provençal

Level 6

Provençal often has -u where Languedocien has -l at the end of a word.

How It Works

Languedocien (this course)Provençal
ostalostau
los, las (the, plural)lei, leis (classical norm)
la bona amigala bono amigo (Mistralian spelling)

There are three differences to recognize. First, some words that end in -l in Languedocien end in a -u sound in Provençal, written -au in ostau. Gascon also writes ostau.

Second, Provençal in the classical spelling uses lei and leis for the plural article where Languedocien uses los and las. Third, many Provençal texts use the Mistralian spelling, which writes -o where the classical spelling writes -a.

Do not mix Provençal forms into your own Languedocien sentences.
