Contracted Pronoun Pairs

Level 6

Nos can shorten before ne, lo and los, and vos before ne.

How It Works

PronounsShort formExample
nos + neno'nNo'n donan cada setmana. (They give us some every week.)
nos + lono'lNo'l pòrta cada ser. (He brings it to us every evening.)
nos + losno'lsNo'ls manda pas. (He does not send them to us.)
vos + nevo'nVo'n mandi tres. (I send you three.)
me + lome'lMe'l mandas? (Will you send it to me?)

The shortening is optional. The full forms nos lo and vos ne are correct, and so are the short forms. The short forms are rare in print, so you need to recognize them more than to write them.

With la and las, the two words do not join: nos la, vos las. For me and te with ne, the contraction is the normal spelling and you met it earlier (me'n, te'n). Me'l (me and lo) is written in the same way.
