un, una
Indefinite Articles
Pick un or una by the gender of the noun.
How It Works
The singular indefinite article has two forms.
| Article | Before | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| un | a masculine noun | un cafè (a coffee), un ostal (a house) |
| una | a feminine noun | una cadièra (a chair), una pòrta (a door) |
Un and una also mean one: un fraire can be a brother or one brother. Context tells you which.
For some of something, Occitan uses de or d', as in d'amics (some friends), and never the French des. A later entry explains this. The words unes and unas mean some or certain ones.
The Occitan una is not the French une.
