-ने भयो

Deciding to Do Something

Level 4Sounds Like nē bhayō

-ने भयो means it was decided to.

How It Works

This pattern turns a plan into a settled thing. The verb takes -ने and हुनु follows in the past:

DoerForm
मजाने भएँ
हामीसर्ने भयौँ
उनी (woman)पढ्ने भइन्
उनीहरूआउने भए
तपाईंजाने हुनुभयो

It can mean that you decided, or that things were arranged so that it will happen. Example: उनीहरू भोलि आउने भए (they are going to come tomorrow, it is settled).

Use -नेछु for a plain future. Use -ने भयो when the decision is already made. The negative puts न- on the verb: म नजाने भएँ means I decided not to go.

  2. हामी अर्को हप्ता घर सर्ने भयौँ।

    भयौँ goes with हामी.

  3. सरिता काठमाडौंमा पढ्ने भइन्।

    भए agrees with उनीहरू.

Common Mistakes

  • A learner puts ले on the doer.

    मैले नेपाल जाने भएँ।
    म नेपाल जाने भएँ।

जानु has no object, so the doer stays म.
