जानु / आउनु
Going and Coming
Going and coming usually take the place directly, with no word for to.
How It Works
जानु (to go) and आउनु (to come) are the first verbs of movement.
| Verb | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| जानु | म काठमाडौं जान्छु। | I go to Kathmandu. |
| आउनु | ऊ घर आउँछ। | He comes home. |
The place you move to usually takes no postposition, and there is no word for to. Start with the plain pattern: बजार जान्छु (I go to the market).
The place you move from takes बाट: म पोखराबाट आउँछु (I come from Pokhara).
जा- ends in a vowel, so the present is जान्छ, जान्छु, जान्छौ. आउ- turns nasal: आउँछ, आउँछु. The polite forms are जानुहुन्छ and आउनुहुन्छ.
