हरू
Making Plurals with हरू
हरू joins a noun and makes it mean more than one.
How It Works
हरू makes a noun plural. Write it joined to the noun.
| One | More than one |
|---|---|
| किताब | किताबहरू |
| केटा | केटाहरू |
| साथी | साथीहरू |
| तपाईं | तपाईंहरू |
A postposition comes after हरू: साथीहरूलाई, किताबहरूमा.
After a number or a word like धेरै (many), Nepali usually leaves हरू out. The usual way to say it is दुई किताब. The number already shows there is more than one.
In writing, a plural noun usually takes the plural verb: किताबहरू टेबुलमा छन् uses छन्, the plural of छ. In speech, a plural thing often keeps the singular छ.
The standard spelling ends in ू. You may see हरु in casual writing, but the standard spelling is हरू.
