भयो

Saying It Is Done or Enough

Level 2Sounds Like bhayō

Use भयो for what happened, and for saying no more is needed.

How It Works

भयो is the past of हुनु. It works in three common ways.

  • Happened: के भयो? asks what happened.
  • Became: चिया तयार भयो means the tea is ready now.
  • Enough or fine: भयो, धन्यवाद! means that is enough, thank you. A host offers more rice, and you say भयो.

The sentence can also close a deal or an argument: भयो, अब जाऔँ (all right, let us go now).

The other forms are भएँ, भयौ, भए and भइन्. A woman who is ऊ uses भई. For respect, use हुनुभयो. Because हुनु takes no object, it takes no ले: मलाई जाडो भयो (I felt cold).

Do not confuse भयो with थियो. थियो means was; भयो means became or happened.
